Abstract
The article discusses Speech Sound Disorders (SSD) in Hong Kong preschool children. Definitions by American Speech-Language-Hearing Association are used to define the disorder. The prevalence of SSD in other countries and the data from Hong Kong Department of Health is discussed. Developmental sequence of Cantonese consonants is used to highlight the relationship between age and speech sound disorders. Data from two children suffering from the disorders, who were studying in mainstream kindergartens, is discussed. Appropriate ways for kindergarten teachers to help these children are also explored.
